Name: Baroness
Gender: Female
Species: Border Collie
Personality: Very snappy, haughty, dismissive, and impatient. She lacks much empathy and is much of an introvert. The reasoning for this is that she lost her one and only loved one, her mother, and since then she's been alone and quite bitter.
Description: Large border collie dog with old pilot goggles, leather collar, ragged silk scarf, a couple of dogtags, and bandages around both hind legs. She also always has dirt smeared on both of her cheeks right under her lime green eyes.
History: The world she lives in is an alternate version of history, where WWI wiped out 99% of the life on earth. The few survivors cling to life in a post-apocalyptic world by scavenging, and it's every man (or dog) for himself. Baroness was born into this world, her mother being just a pup when the the world essentially came to an end. Her mother was the only constant in her life, and was her entire world growing up. However, when she was still young her mother fell ill and died, leaving Baroness completely alone in an unforgiving world. Her scarf was a gift from her mother, and since her death she hardly ever takes it off. Baroness struggled immensely for a while to survive without the help of her mother, despite her mother trying her hardest to pass on her knowledge to her daughter. At one point, in her desperation to reach food, she lost her footing and her hind legs were plunged into chemicals leftover from the war, permanently disfiguring her. She wears bandages to hide this. Other than her mother, she has never had any sort of emotional attachment to anyone else, until she finds Mayapple.
Mayapple: (to Baroness) "What's the dogtag for? Did you lose somebody?"
Baroness: "Each dogtag represents someone I care about. It's like a tribute."
Mayapple: "But.. there's only one tag... what's it say?"
Baroness: "Baroness."
Baroness originally only has the one dogtag, which she picked up on a whim. On the front it just has a number, but on the back she had carved "BAR" into the metal. However, she gradually learns to accept Mayapple, and over time she even begins to grow fond of her companion. She eventually finds another dogtag, and carves "MAY" onto the back of it, and she begins to wear it as well.
